Sometimes pool removal is the best option. We have removed pools for a variety of reasons — problem pool; backyard renovation; insurance claims; children are grown and gone; turning the property into a rental. We pull permits and make sure all of our removals are done per code. This is important for real estate transactions because the permit process ensures that the pool is removed from the MLS and allows the future owners to use the pool removal area for projects.
The process includes draining the pool; taking a 3′ x 3′ section out of the deep end down to the dirt to prevent hydro static pressure; removing the floor inside the spa; taking the coping down 18″; removing the equipment; and shutting down the gas and electrical per code. The cost varies considerably due to different circumstances but good access is definitely key. The cost for this service usually is in the $6,000 – $15,000 range.
